Snowfall Delays Burning Wood Piles

1/26/10 Las Vegas, NV… Due to the series of winter storms last week, the U.S. Forest Service will not be burning wood piles in Kyle and Lee Canyons this winter. Forest Service snow sensors, installed in partnership with the Natural Resources Conservation Service and the U.S. Geological Survey, showed 44 inches of snow in Lee Canyon last Friday, January 22. Prescribed burning will have to wait until after the snow thaws, allowing the piles to dry. The Forest Service will continue to keep residents and visitors posted on future burning activities in the area. The original press release is posted here-

The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest Supervisor signed the Record of Decision (ROD) for the Middle Kyle Complex project on December 31, 2009. This is a detailed description for the redesign of services and facilities for the SMNRA in popular Kyle Canyon located on Mt. Charleston. The plans include a new visitor center, multiple-use trails, picnic and camping facilities. Construction is planned for a Village area at the old golf course, that will serve as the hub for visitor information and education programs for the SMNRA. Also authorized for this site are a wide range of recreation-related opportunities including an amphitheater, plaza area with exterior interpretative displays, group picnic area, play space, education facility, reconstruction of ponds for wildlife/kids fishing activities, interpretive trails and associated day-use facilities.

Farewell from our Town Board Secretary

Hello members of the Mount Charleston Community, I’m sure many of you who frequent Town Advisory Board meetings have heard, by now, that I will no longer be the secretary of the board. Though we all knew that it would not be permanent, it is a sad thing to go, and I will certainly miss working for the Town Advisory Board and being such an active part of the community. Those who I’ve spoken with have all inquired as to why I am leaving the position, and I thought it would be nice to give everyone a bit of information regarding my resignation.

Two and a half years in the making, the readdressing of the Mt. Charleston communities is finally happening! On November 30, 2009, every property owner within a recorded subdivision was sent a letter from Clark County Addressing Services with their new house number, and in some instances, their new street name.
